Watch how this violinist handles a broken string during a symphony solo

That was really slick. :heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

@Professor59 As was that :heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

I thought that the Concertmaster was supposed to take the bullet for the conductor?

That might depend on how the conductor treated you during rehearsal.
I had the good fortune to be conducted by Richard Bradshaw once when I was in school. I think many would have taken a bullet for him. He was an excellent conductor in all respects.

.oO( Imagining the percussion section passing over a spare piano when the pianist breaks a piano string )

(Beethoven was infamous for breaking piano strings while playing. Modern pianos suffer much less from this problem).

I was expecting to hear the piece Tchaikovsky deliberately wrote to f-ck with Violinist Ray Chen, but that was a different one.

This oneโ€™s fricking great. Itโ€™s like Mister Rogers changing shoes.

The only time an audience can applaud during a classical performance. Moral of the story: if you want to get applause for your solo like a jazz artist, break a string.

What did the last guy in line end up with, a tuba?

The last guy ends up with a three-stringed violin clearly.

In my experience, the people in the back are only playing three quarters of the notes anyway.

the rock group Living Colourโ€™s members came out of some pretty serious jazz backgrounds. when I saw them around '91, bassist Muzz Skillings broke a string onstage and immediately started transposing the notes to his remaining strings. I was merely impressed. this being Nashville, pretty much everyone I knew at the show was a musician of some type. They were flabbergasted.

Losing a G string on a bass is not nearly as catastrophic as losing an e on a violin for most compositions. On a bass you are only losing a 4th interval (5 frets) whereas on a violin you are losing a 5th (7 frets) and the basic job of a bass is to provide the low notes anyway, whereas the basic job of a violin is to play the high notes. Single string washboard basses are a thing.

Thatโ€™s Grace under pressure! I liked the little check of the tuning to add an extra touch of humour.
