Today @anon15383236 turned me on to Heather Cox Richardson’s FB page wherein – today – she said that it was her understanding that the DC Police “were told not to engage with protesters”, and that a police dispatcher told her that “it looked like [the DC Police] were told to stand-down”.

Yes, I caught that bit too! Interesting though that in her write up of the day’s events, she significantly revised that assessment:
