DC does not allow armed demonstrations. I believe the shots fired were probably by police/security. PBS confirmed the shooting victim was not law enforcement.

Right? All I can think to myself as I’m watching this unfold is that if these were leftist protesters, we’d see people getting killed right away. You wouldn’t have people storming the Senate chambers and taking selfies at Pence’s podium, breaking windows, trampling through the rotunda, no armed standoff at the entrance to the House chambers.

I’m not the slightest bit surprised this is happening. This is what we’ve been building up to for the past several months. Trump, other Republicans, and right wing media have done nothing but encourage this. He had a rally just a few blocks away earlier today where he encouraged his supporters to take action.
Now he finally tweets about this and the best he can come up with is a mealy mouthed “respect the police” response.
