Just my opinion, that is all. Some crimes deserve the book being thrown at them along with the key being tossed and other crimes don’t. I guess it all comes down to what he knew and what he thought he was doing and his intentions. Pretty sure the law takes that all into account.

Gun apologists and gun propaganda slingers have made the world a worse place, you have made my life and my pain worse directly and personally with your callous disregard for the experiences of people like me in order to wank about your fucking literal-no-bullshit-murder-porn fetish that you could enable WITHOUT costing actual lives but NOOOO the rest of us have to actually suffer and die in the real world with real guns or it isn’t as hot I guess to cosplay a sexy murderer and sport-shoot once a year. Because the right be an idiot waving a gun and/or a murderer is greater than the right of literally anyone to a life safe from being shot an intersection or in their home or school. Same old same old.
I truly believe that few people in the world have done as much harm to push harmful misinformation to as many with such terrible results as gun apologists. Maybe vaccine deniers. And that’s it. Maybe back in the day people who worked against regulation of things like arsenic or lead. But that’s the level it’s on.
I hate the ones that pretend to be anything they aren’t most of all. No one is fooled any more than they are fooled by Trump apologists who say “I don’t approve of Trump himself on all issues but…” and of course still vote the same way, or people who only go to klan rallies to celebrate free-speech and fraternal engagement.
In my view the whole entitled worldview is as warped as a drunk-driver’s rationalizations.
Words fail me to put down the complete level of disgust and contempt I feel at this point for anyone still defending guns as a sort of “cool toy” on any fucking level while people are being massacred.
I have more sympathy for Q-Anon moms who are just in denial about their benzo addictions at this point. At least that’s not literally murdering people…
People who feel like me often shut up eventually from exhaustion and need to heal from trauma, emboldening the apologists to wear down the next wave with apathy, rationalizations, and ceaseless gaslighting. But in reality it’s just gun culture silencing victims and making life bad… in every fucking corner.

Exactly this! Also an art teacher, and if I had called police on every gun/bullet/bloody drawing I’d seen in my career I’d have been fired years ago. Censoring student artists isn’t the answer. My students have been inner city students dealing with neighborhood violence through their art, exploring “edgy” themes for the street cred, and in one notable case filling sketchbook after sketchbook with shockingly bloody cartoon after cartoon - and that student was one of the kindest, calmest, gentle giants I’ve ever known.
I have had students I felt were a risk to themselves or others, but there is remarkably little schools can do to get those kids help absent the permission and involvement of parents.

It will be interesting to see if the parents hire there own lawyer or also get a court appointed one. In other words, if they do have money they’re not helping with the kid’s attorney. I guess it’s possible they don’t have access to money right now because jail but right now it appears the kid is on his own.
More ways this whole thing is so sad.
is that before or after insurance, co-insurance, co-payments, deductible, monthly payments, and losing one’s house after discovering med bed is explicitly excluded from coverage?

I’d add the tobacco industry, which laid out the template for every misinformation campaign out there. The includes the NRA’s decades-long FUD-fest, the bad-faith talking points of which were being used by certain users here until very recently when the organisation’s corruption and bigotry became too obvious to ignore.

This whole thing is turning into a political game. This morning we find out the school district has turned down the offer of an independent investigation from the state attorney general opting for a private security firm investigation.
It doesn’t help that the county sheriff is a republican with political aspirations and the county DA is a democrat who also appears to have political aspirations.
It doesn’t help that the media and all parties involved are blaming each other for everything instead of working together to figure out what’s best for the kids and how to prevent this from happening again.

Maybe if they’d taken the many concerned calls seriously in the YEARS leading up to this. But who was complaining there was something not right with his upbringing? An ex-wife, and a female neighbor. No man showed concern, so everything was fine and dandy.
If you want attention, have a man call 911 or DCFS on your behalf. If they hear a male voice, they take it seriously.

Apparently the parents have hired private defense attorneys for themselves while the kid gets a public defender. Maybe nobody would touch the shooter’s case, but it just seems like more of the same from these horrible people that should not have reproduced.
