Yeah, but they failed because they would only play official Broadway cast soundtracks. They sold really well in Midtown Manhattan, though!
We also made mix tapes.
My friends and I would transfer our albums to long-playing cassettes, mostly. so the vinyl would retain that crisp sound.
I have several vinyl records that have been played only one or two times because I recorded them to cassette so the cassette could get ruined rather than the vinyl.
Man, CD’s were a godsend.
And then you rip your CD’s to other CD’s so they don’t get scratched…
We didn’t worry about it so much in the 90’s. Mid-00’s found me ripping CDs to MP3 on my PC. Funny thing is I still use an iPod because it has a whole lot more storage capacity than my phone. Plus, my youngest car is just about 12 years old, so if I don’t want to drag CDs around, I kinda need it.
