I do enjoy deadpan snark as much as the next fellow; and the execution here is good; but I can’t shake the impression that it’s Wayne who is winning in all the ways that matter here.
LaPierre’s victory condition isn’t covering himself in dignitiy and and advancing principled arguments that sway neutral observers; it’s making sure that no substantive reforms threaten his status quo. If he can do that by playing serious, credible, expert that works; if he can do that by playing culture warrior, that works; if he can do that by being a professional clown who encourages people to make him look the fool rather than legislating contrary to his interests that works as well.
This isn’t to say that all satire is useless and anyone not pushing legislation is irrelevant; but it pays to remember that Wayne merely being satirized is to the NRA much like Zuckerberg being called in to congress and asked a bunch of angry questions by grandstanding senators who proceed to take no further action is to facebook; the appearance of humiliation but a victory for all practical purposes.

On No 7: How would he know gun control never works if it’s never been tried on any large scale?
NY, LA, and Chicago don’t even break the top 10 most dangerous cites in the US. All those cities are surrounded by suburbs and rural areas where gun control is lax.

People as of late in NYC have made a big deal of the percentage rise in violent crime. But they fail to acknowledge crime in the city has been on a 50 year low. Percentage increases mean little in reality when original baselines are low.

Honestly most of the time a large percentage increase should be read as saying there is very little of something. Doubling the number of Americans who understand English would involve some major population changes, doubling the number who understand Hittite could be done by a single teacher.
