We Are Indie Toys – How vinyl character artists turn their ideas into one-of-a-kind collectibles

I’ve seen a few self-published manuals on garage kit model production that cover the nuts and bolts of mold creation and resin casting, but they are probably long out of print. There is also the excellent Prop Builder’s Molding & Casting Handbook.

Flexible, hollow vinyl toys are a whole different undertaking for the most part though. I don’t have any personal experience with those. Liquid neoprene is also used for similar pieces, but vinyl is the new hotness.

Anymore though you can find all kinds of tutorials and videos online if you dig around a little. YouTube and Instructables probably have a lot of that stuff covered these days.

Am I a jerk if I think one-of-a-kind collectible is an oxymoron?
