Try Infidel, from Image. It’s written by Pornsak Pichetshote, who was one the Vertigo editors by the time you were reading its titles. Really impressive stuff.
If you liked Saga, I’d also suggest Y - The Last Man, also written by BKV.
And, please, read any stuff written by Ed Brubaker (Criminal, Fatale, etc). The guy is a hell of a writer.
And, of course, Grant Morrison: Happy!, from Image, is a really nice limited series written by him.
So good. Character is great, stories are funny and poignant and important, and I just can’t get enough of Adrian Alphona’s little grace notes and running gags in the backgrounds.
The world needs a Titan of Braavos version of Zardoz; take your pick of harbors, or maybe put one in every harbor. I predict an awestruck world would finally find peace.
It’s a very thinly veiled reference (the protagonist finds diversion by regularly re-watching a schocky sci-fi movie called Yardzo) but yeah, same deal.
Point of order: “Zardoz” was a big flying head that spat guns and ammo. Sean Connery’s character was named “Zed” (or just “monster”).
I’ve never felt worthy enough to watch the movie.I’m saving it for a distant point in the future when I’ve accomplished my lifework and can at last enter the company of the elect.
I have read the three editions of the Arab of the Future released so far. The way each one of them ends, with a tremendous cliffhanger, leaves you crazy for the next number.
The boy’s father is a very complex subject. You can not be intrigued by him. He is controversial, insecure, daydreamer, repressed, dicatatorial… The mother seems to be handling well all the twists and turns of fate and supports her husband, but I do not know, I think she will get angry.
I can not believe I forgot about Love and Rockets. The Hernadez brothers are very good. What do you prefer? Palormar or Las Locas?
I read a review for “Marble Season” here in Boingboing some years ago. I wish I could import it, but there are many comic books and so little time (and money) to read them all. My wish list is very long, and after this thread, it got even bigger because of all those suggestions.
Paper Girls (same writer as Saga)
Sex Criminals (come for the comic, stay for the letters section)
Copperhead (like the first 10 or so.)
The Wicked and The Divine
Wytches (put out by Image several years ago. the only horror comic I found scary)
Spider-Woman 1-17 2016-17 run where she’s pregnant.
I like the Archie Horror stuff: Afterlife with Archie, Jughead: The Hunger and Sabrina the Teenage Witch
But really, can we just get some more Injection please. Like right away. I haven’t read anything better than that.
I liked Preacher but the gay stuff didn’t age well. Literally every LGBT character in the series is a rapist, a depraved pervert who dabbles in bestiality and/or pedophilia, a prostitute or some combination of the above.
