Mister Miracle writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads both won Eisners for their work on the book! https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/2018-eisner-awards-complete-winners-list-1128983

The last comics from my library.

Negrinha - Jean-Christophe Camus and Olivier Tallec tell the story of a girl, the daughter of a maid, who learns a little about the reality of a Rio de Janeiro besides the postcards of the 1950s.

The Photographer - A young and inexperienced photographer joins an expedition of doctors without borders to the Afghan occupied by the Soviets. What could go wrong?

Estórias Gerais - In a simplified way, this could be considered a kind of Brazilian western. But it is a portrait of a country that is unknown even for the Brazilians. The Brazil of the sertões, the rural side, rude but full of life. Unfortunately it was only published in Portuguese. Maybe the future of Boingboing comic store does not release an English version of it?

Palestine - You may not agree with Joe Sacco’s views, but we have to acknowledge that he has had a great deal of work to write about people who are oppressed in different parts of the world.

The Building - I would very much like if someone make a movie with material created by Will Eisner. Okay, that Spirit movie does not count.

Year one - This is a must read for anyone who wants to like superhero comics. Oh, do you like Marvel? Try Born Again. I swear you will not be disappointed.

Animal Man - A vegan hero reimagined by Grant Morrison. With bills to pay, teenage children and a spouse who is the breadwinner of the house he has to fight violent foes from every corner of the galaxy.

So you are from Finland?

In the 1990s I edited a very mixuruca fanzine and used to exchange letters with Finnish cartoonists. Nowadays I still exchange letters with these people from Slovenia who publish comics from all over the world, eventually some Finnish cartoonists.

I don’t like the non comics stuff by Mr. Gaiman, but Sandman is very good. Miracleman is also very good.

Yeah I’m Finnish. Land where Carl Barks and Don Rosa are rockstars. I see Stripburger every year at The Helsinki Comics Festival.

As Umberto Eco said: “When I want to relax, I read Engels’ essays; but when I want something that makes me think, I read Corto Maltese!” (translated from Italian to French to my memory to French to English)

Unfortunately, as far as I know, the English language editions of Corto Maltese are shitty, butchering the original layout.

I’m pretty sure @hecep meant Spielberg’s one, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Uncanny Valley.

I never watched the animated version of the cartoon. People say it is good.

I think it could count as another pastiche of Tintin

So, I browsed the whole thread, I see Riyad Sattouf was mentioned, Manu Larcenet, Lewis Trondheim… All well and good, but unless I missed a spot check, no one mentioned their friend Joann Sfar.

I always see his books in the bookshops. I have to check it out.

Did you see the adaptation of Rabbi’s cat for animation? This cartoon made its debut in theaters here, but I let the time pass and I could not see.

Honestly, yeah, the animated adaptation of Corto Maltese is quite good. Very faithful to the original story, which was probably the most susceptible to be adapted.

The Rabbi’s Cat is good too, and Joann Sfar directed the adaptation himself.

By the way, just as Riyad Sattouf’s The Arab of the Future is a nifty read with the added bonus of insights into the state of mind of people of the Middle East, Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis is kinda the same for Iran.

Read it, you will laugh and cry equally.

The animated adaptation of Tintin is ok too. But in other hand, the adaptation of Valerian and Laureline made me cry. it is so bad and very different from the original material.

It is not a comic book. But is based upon the works of the french cartoonist Tardi.

If you like it, check out this one too (NSFW!):
