I’m a tad worse than that. Strike the 3 out of that, and it’s accurate for me, except I did it when it came out. I’m still not done.
Well, all of the BG games should be savored in their own right time!
It’s a great game and has some pretty wild moments including one in particular I don’t want to spoil by talking about but I’m sure you’ll know the moment I’m referring to when you come across it.
Did you play the first one, and/or Control?
Maybe so they can say the combined pack is 50% off some other time?
I envy people who will get to experience that for the first time. It blew me away.
@anon58741709 Don’t look anything up online. It should come as a complete surprise!
Yep! Last year I started a whole Remedy Connected Universe thing, inspired by @sqlrob and @Jesse13927 around the time AW2 was released. I played Alan Wake, American Nightmare, Quantum Break and Control, watched the Night Springs prequel videos and read the House of Dreams blog. I’m very excited for AW2 and have been doing my best to avoid any info (including not listening to any of the new music for the game).
I’m also finishing my first reading of House of Leaves. It’s not part of the RCU, but it was a source of inspiration for Sam Lake.
Poe’s AW2 song is the one that I am being very careful to avoid. It has popped up on playlists generated by other stuff I’ve been listing to, but I’ve caught it so far.
I know Quantum Break isn’t officially part of the RCU, but there are easter eggs, at least, from AW to QB, and QB to both Control and AW2. Also, I think that the first AW2 DLC has a Quantum Break connection, but it’s one of the things that I’ve been trying not to get too much info on. Anyway, it’s part of my RCU mind canon. House of Leaves and Poe’s album Haunted are, in their own way, too.
Decided to give the latest season in No Man’s Sky a shot. It’s been a while since I’ve played, but WOW they’ve really improved the VR. Pretty combat focused and yet another meter to keep an eye on, so not much time to check out the scenery.
The big thing this season is cosmic horror. The effects are pretty disturbing in VR. Give this season a skip if you’re the slightest bit susceptible to migraines. The warping of space is very similair to a halo, and I can see this inducing a migraine.
ETA: The halo effect is nowhere near as strong on flat, so if you’re not playing VR, you’re probably fine. nm. It’s actually pretty bad at stronger boundary effects. It’s just better than it is in VR, but I can still see it being triggering.
Number 2 is Alan Wake 2. I’m playing Alan Wake 2 right now and I have to protest that recommendation. It’s fantastic, but it’s intense. Sometimes I can’t play it because I’m already too stressed out about the election and can’t add to it.
I will say that the anniversary update has some great accessibility features, though. I played for a little bit with unlimited flashlight batteries, and it turns it into an entirely different (and still fantastic) game with about half the anxiety and still all of the awesome weird story. I turned it back on, because I felt like I was cheating myself of the full resource-scarce horror experience, but I dunno. I might turn it back on. I don’t know if I want that much tension in my life right now, but I still love the game.
I guess I’m disputing my protest. Play Alan Wake 2 and if it’s too much just make it easier on yourself and enjoy. The real world is hard enough.
ETA: There’s another accessibility feature to turn the 180 degree turnaround from “left analogue stick double-tap down”, to “click the right stick while holding down on the left.” It should be the default.
Not sure I would suggest a horror game when dealing with the horrors of reality. Of the other recommendations they listed under simulation games, I’d agree with Power Wash Simulator. It’s such a satisfying game.
I’d also recommend The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. All of the puzzles of Zelda but you get to create a horde of creatures to take care of most of the combat. It’s a cozy lil’ Zelda game, and there’s nothing wrong with that. (Well, I don’t like the final dungeon and battle. There’s nothing wrong with the other 95% of the game.)
This doesn’t really seem likely. I’ll pounce on the new Switch if it does happen, though.
