Their production and marketing budgets are so high that I don’t doubt some level of disappointment with the sales. The big companies have had trouble scaling back for a while.
I always knew something was off with that dog.
That looks like fun.
I’ll never play it of course but it looks like a great idea.
Also: I’ll never stop blaming video games for why cinema tends to look like absolute murky shit. And no, it isn’t because cinematographers are obsessed with diegetic lighting in films, if it was, hospital scenes wouldn’t be murky brown shit with a little part of it emerging in a spot.
I would like to chime in with a couple I’ve been just playing
Thank Goodness You’re Here is so dang cute and funny! Set in a small northern English town so it has quirky humour plus Matt Barry from The I.T. Crowd as one of the voice actors
Another one is Ghost of Tsushima which is just gorgeous and quite well done story-wise.
This is all thanks to the fantastic Steam Deck, allowing me to so easily drop a few minutes to hours with almost too much ease. There’s a chance I could actually make a small dent in my back-log
Alien Isolation is 10
Still holds up as being the best game in that universe by far.
I’m really hoping Rogue Incursion is good. Still haven’t decided whether I’m going to wuss out on that or not. Facecrab going straight for your face? Yeah…
It helps that dad games aren’t overly ambitious and expensive projects. It’s easier to churn them out and make a modest profit. Plus the familiarity of the real-world settings of the “simulator” games makes them so easy to pick up. Hell, these games generally don’t appeal to me because the last thing I want to do is work when I’m playing, but Power Wash Simulator managed to steal a few hours from me because it was easy to get into and it’s so damn peaceful.
So my iPhone 8 suddenly decided there were no networks. The repair guy in the next town over couldn’t fix it. So even though I am unemployed and facing massive medical debt I had to buy a new phone! Yeah mandatory upgrade! I now have a 13!
So of course I installed Warframe. I’ve played a little Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy, but I am not a “gamer” - my favorite iOS game I’ve played so far was Monument Valley. What do I need to know about Warframe going in newb? What other games should I check out?
I don’t know anything about Warframe, and don’t play any games on my phone (if it even can handle them…?), but all that said I do know that Vampire Survivors has a mobile version. If you haven’t tried it, and are ready to lose some hours, I’d recommend giving it a go. It’s really fun.
24.99 + 10 ≠ 69.99
Why do they do this stuff?
Anyway, I’m currently playing Midnight Suns, but Alan Wake 2 is in my sights to start by Halloween.
Midnight Suns is really fun. The combat really well done, but it’s not the majority of the game. Mostly it’s hanging around the base, socializing with other heroes in their downtime and comfy clothes, picking flowers and mushrooms for brewing potions, and that sort of thing. I like it much more than I thought I would. I spent too much time agonizing over whether to tell Magik about her surprise birthday party or not, though. I hope I made the right call there.
That said, they are getting pretty screwy with the pricing on that game, too. I picked it up free on the Epic Store a few months back, and would probably buy the DLC if I was planning on sticking with the game, but it costs as much as a full new game. It’s a terrible deal for anyone looking to get the base game and the DLC now.
Just not discounting the already combined I’ve seen worse, where a 1+2 combo pack of a game was cheaper than either individually.
Giving a discount on a 2-pack makes sense, though. This doesn’t seem nefarious or anything, they aren’t being deceptive, it just doesn’t make sense to me. Ah well.
How is your trip through Remedy Connected Universe going?
Haven’t touched it :-/. I tend to drift away from things and not go back for a long time.
Pretty disappointed that the next one is multiplayer though
ETA:
It was something like this though:
Game A: $4.00
Game B: $4.00
Game A + Game B: $3.50
I hear you. I set Baldur’s Gate 3 down after the first act, even though I loved it, and haven’t got back to it yet a year later.
I did not realize the next Remedy game is going to be multiplayer… although 3-player co-op sounds like it could be not too bad. I wonder if there will be a single player option, or if you’ll be forced to find other players online… ugh. Online games really are the worst, though. I don’t know if I can make two friends by 2025.
ETA: Oh! That pricing is super wonky!
