John DiMaggio just shared a statement explaining why he’s not coming back.
I respect his decision but I still kind of wish the statement had just said ”Oh yeah? Well I’ll start my OWN cartoon! With blackjack! And hookers!”

Maybe this will provide them with an opportunity to recast the role without whitewashing the character
Maybe it would for the best to not revive the show anyway. I’d have more respect for the voice actors on The Simpsons if they had all given their notice and voiced one last good season of the show many years ago back before the writing team completely ran out of ideas. Having a show drag on and on forever even after it lost what made it special is just sad to see.
Not that I blame them for saying yes to the money, mind you. I hear that their current contracts pay hundreds of thousands of dollars per episode. Hard to turn that kind of money down.

Yeah, the previous revivals of Futurama had a lot of funny episodes but there were some stinkers mixed in there too. I feel like trying to recapture the magic of the show at its peak would be a difficult task in the best of circumstances and doing it without DiMaggio would be bound to be a disappointment. Better to move on to something new.

I went to look at the IMDB, and did not see his name… I’m curious as to what he’s doing in the show.
How does that even work for a show? Seems like it would need to be either Interviews with a Vampire or Interviews of Vampires if you wanted to have enough material for a whole series. How long can one single interview go on for, assuming that it needs to occur at night?
I suspect it’ll be much like Game of Thrones which was named after the first book, but followed the plot of the whole series. In this case, the entire series is completed and there is plenty of material to pull from, as the Vampire Chronicles runs to 13 books.

Uh, it was centered on Milo, you know, Milo Bloom. With a great array of side characters, some of whom were a lawyer, a penguin, and a lobotomized cat.

For like the first few months of the strip maybe. After that it moved off in a series of directions that Berkeley Breathed never anticipated. Just take a look at all the Bloom County books and branded merchandise and count how many times Milo’s face shows up compared to Opus’.
