I was only two episodes in when I wrote that. And yeah, I’m seeing some tropes too, like “competent woman needs man to save the day”. Not perfect, but entertaining I guess. Sort of like Killing Eve, not meant to be wholly accurate, but entertaining.
I can’t compare because I haven’t seen the US version but it is fun. Though you may get more enjoyment out of it depending on how well you know the celebs of UK light entertainment.
Ongoing update from me about The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel…
This piece covers my feelings about the first half of the latest episode:
But it doesn’t even mention the second half, where she goes from her cruel and ignorant non-apology to Shy Baldwin to pull a similar public ‘comedic’ stunt with the only other woman comedian in the show. She can’t help herself: she’s a cruel jerk. She only punches down.
It’s reminding me of all the comics I never liked – Don Rickles, Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, Andrew Dice Clay, and yes, Joan Rivers (who may be one of the influences for this TV show) – and not in a good way.
As I said, I was waiting for her comeuppance. At this point, I have to assume it will never happen. So, no more updates from me about this show!
Thanks for the update on this!
Sad to hear they went in that direction.
I only started watching Resident Alien this week and it is really damn funny. Deliciously wrong and Alan Tudyk is really weird but to me it is laugh out loud funny.
Resident Alien is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows currently on the air. Alan Tudyk is superb in it.
It is such a weird and wonderful show. Funny, sweet, and occasionally strangely adult. Alan Tudyk is a national treasure
Just watched No Exit; I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I can not agree more; hope it got greenlit for a new season.
I felt like Killing Eve was trying to have it both ways, like, “If you like this, then it’s serious—but if you think it’s ridiculous, then it’s just a joke, it’s a … satire or something, we haven’t decided yet”
Though to be fair I both like it AND think it is ridiculous
There is a Season 2 airing now, looks like we get at least 2 seasons
Just watched the final episode of The Afterparty on AppleTV+. It’s good silly fun. It uses a lot of flashbacks with interesting perspective conceits to tell a whodunnit mystery that I am not sure of the quality of - I would need to watch it again to determine if all the clues were actually presented yo me…I did not figure it out
Tiffany Haddish is great, and the copaganda is limited to a “one good cop” trope or two.
It’s interesting how he seems to be Disney’s go-to guy for bird noises now (he was the voice of the chicken from Moana and the toucan from Encanto).
And the voice of Iago on the live action Alladin! I can’t imagine having to follow up Gilbert Gottfried
Oh wow, I hadn’t even heard about that. Honestly I’m surprised that Disney didn’t just spring for Godfrey again.
I’ve never been tempted to watch any of the live-action remakes but that might have at least made me curious enough to give it a chance.
