Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

Thoughts on how the actors are stacking up to the people they are playing?

Not sure I’m convinced by a few… Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, and Tony Blair, mostly… and the Queen Mother… although I can’t imagine that they won’t all do a bang up job.

You say you’re looking for spot-on portrayals of the whole Firm?

Juvenile, foul-mouthed, and mean-spirited. It’s as if the writers looked into my soul and made a comedy just for me.

On Netflix.

It’s an absolute disgrace. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! I was going to put up a pull quote of a favorite line, but there are just too many. After several episodes though the one that still sticks out from episode 1 is “if only I could read”, if only because the setup and pay off are delightfully handled.

Also came here to say that of all the shows that I’ve watched over the past few years, I’m going to miss you most Atlanta

What a great show that was. And what an appropriate note for a surreal show to go out on. I mean, it almost feels cheap. Almost. But the team behind that show have long proven to have more than just capable hands.

I like that they left it unresolved. It would explain a lot of the rest of the show though

I just recently discovered a show called Woke on Sony AXN here. I imagine most of you probably knew about it already, but as a long time reader of Keith Knight’s K Chronicles on the Daily Kos, it was a delight to not only find the show on German TV, but to also find out it is well written, a loving tribute to the annoying yet lovable people that populate the left.

“Framing Agnes” (in theaters, limited Dec. 2/Dec. 9)

Not quite a documentary, not quite a fictional narrative, this innovative cinematic exercise from director Chase Joynt takes the story of Agnes – a pioneering transgender woman whose participation in an infamous UCLA gender health study in the 1960s allowed her to gain access to gender-affirming healthcare – and blends it with other stories from long-shelved case files to “widen the frame through which trans history is viewed.” Promising “vividly rendered” re-enactments of vintage trans history, collaboratively created by an all-star cast of trans performers, artists, and thinkers, this one is only getting a limited theatrical release, for now – but even if it doesn’t screen near you, keep your eyes open, because it looks like it’s worth waiting for. Angelica Ross, Jen Richards, and Zackary Drucker are among the featured stars.

Sounds interesting. Though I may watch it at home after the theater run.

I’ve been enjoying that show, thus far.

I started watching it last night. Warning for those who might need it—there are at least eight violent deaths (not counting the animals) and many threats of violence, in the course of the first episode.

i don’t think it right to say i enjoyed the series, but overall, The English is well done.
i found it rather a dense homage to Pekinpah and the “spaghetti western” of old (hence the aforementioned violence). glorious cinemagraphic crafting highlights what once was vast, sprawling open praire and dense, stilted dialog that only superficially exposes deeper layers revealed in the last episodes.
Blunt was her fantastic self, full of surprises and Chaske Spencer plays a great role as the Pawnee.
worthwhile, but definitely not uplifting.

Well, I guess it had to be a blonde white girl with Ncuti Gatwa as the new Doctor. No idea about her acting chops, but having been on Coronation Street suggests she’s already experienced and beloved:
