Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

I wasn’t as impressed by Pickman’s Model or Dreams of the Witch House. I’m not sure, but the stories felt heavily padded to extend the runtime. I haven’t read Lovecraft in many years, so I don’t know if my feelings are valid.

I agree with that… I guess cause I just read a couple of works derived from Lovecraft that do a great job engaging with and improving on his work…

I do agree that the Autopsy might have been the scariest? But I think that the Murmuring should be a bit higher, because it had some pretty tense moments… I didn’t think that The Viewing was particularly scary, so I would put that further down the list.

Yeah, The Viewing felt more weird and unsettling than scary, but kudos to Charlyne Yi and others who fully embraced the weird.

And the ending is not that big of a twist, if you’ve seen the directors other work (Beyond the Black Rainbow)… Very similar kind of weirdness. So very 70s, tho. And Charlyne Yi and Eric Andre were great (as was Peter Weller!).

Another one bites the dust. This wouldn’t have been so surprising had I been more aware of the ratings decline each season. Westworld became very good at having interesting concepts but making the attached stories meandering.

Aww man.

The last season did kinda meander though.

Weird: the Al Yankovic Story had a lot of fun riffing on the rock biopic genre. In a similar vein as Rock Hard but with a distinctly peak-80s-Al flavor. I bet Madonna laughed her ass off when she saw how they used her as a character.

With Emo Philips as Salvador Dali!

It’s a shame Weird Al was taken from us so young. Damn that Ciccone cartel!

(Spoilers!)

All the celebrity cameos (as various 80s celebrities) were a hoot. One of those movies you know people wanted to be involved with just for kicks.

Ok I blurred it, but we all remember where we were that day

Back when it aired, I caught the first couple of seasons, but started to drift off. Then I discovered Babylon 5, and DS9 was kinda dead to me then, the “lesser tin can in space” series.

Now, with streaming, I can enjoy each on its own schedule. And though B5 is still the better tale, I can enjoy DS9.

Put me down as another fan of The Peripheral, now that we are a few episodes in. The acting is top notch, and it was a treat for me to see J J Field again, as Lev Zubov.

What I really like about the series is that it captures William Gibson’s fascination less with the tech, but what it does to people. Flynne and Burton are well rounded, Wilf and the other post-Jackpot people as well. Hell, even the big bad county crime lord has nuances, and almost every single character is both repulsive and sympathetic at the same time. Like real people.

It was pretty good. Different from anything else I’ve watched recently.
