I hadn’t thought about it being as old as WW1 with the clues you pointed out, but it sounds plausible. OTOH, it may be a mutant version that only exists at the camp I went to. They were still singing it when I went back as a counselor in '93; hopefully they still are.

Doesn’t quite work

As a camp song I’m not sure that the mention of cots is useful in dating it.
