Where to buy a flyable WWI replica plane

“The Great Waldo Pepper” is on my list of great flying flicks. Another favorite is “The Blue Max”. “Flyboys” is okay, but it’s loaded with miniatures and CGI.

Moving up to WWII, “Battle of Britain”, “Mosquito Squadron”, “633 Squadron”, “Dam Busters”, and the BBC TV series “Piece of Cake”. “Red Tails” again is okay, but suffers from too much CGI and not enough real flying.

But my favorite is “Sky Riders”, featuring a hang glider assault on a Greek mountain fortress.

Aces High? Not as good as The Blue Max, but I love it still.

Also, the craptastic Red Baron.

Of course, you could just build your own from scratch.

You could always get a Chippy.

Or a pre-owned Gulfstream…

What, no Aces High? For shame.
ETA ah: too late.

This is terrific. My brother – who’s a gifted engineer, woodworker and machinist – has been building a kit airplane in his garage (a Falco) for about four years. It’s an incredible project and I’m guessing at his current rate he’s about 3-4 years away. These sound a bit simpler, mercifully. I admire anyone who can do this.
