Duh!! Showing my metalocentric view of music.
Oh, it would definitely fit in the misogyny thread too. Many of the women I’d gladly add to that list don’t really qualify as “lead singers” since they didn’t front a band… but they’ve got undeniable talent. Cyndi Lauper, Amy Winehouse, Janelle Monae, maybe Anita Baker too… so many possibilities.
I do agree that Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury should be high on any list of singers, though. They’re both awesome.
Chris Cornell is way too low on the list and where the fuck is Janis Joplin, Anne Wilson, even Siouxsie Sioux!?
Even if this list is in the context of singers of bands and not solo artists, it is severely lacking and gives me a lot of sad. Especially with F’n Bono at number 3.
Hey, at least Bob Dylan isn’t on it!
Old Irish Word, means “Twat”.
No Aretha, no Dolly, no Sinead, no Prince, no Marvin, no Janis, no Siouxsie… I like quite of few of those singers, but that’s pure bullshit.
He could sometimes hold one…
Yes, though TBF, the category is “Lead Singer,” and the white dudes listed are all members of bands.
Maybe there were other singer categories (not that if there were, they’d likely be any less white male).
Still - Siouxsie, someone mentioned Ann wilson and Grace slick, Janis would count (Big Brother and the Holding Co)… What about Gladys Knight, or many of the acts on Mototown… Someone in the thread had a gif of Annie Lennox. And if they’re going to include Cobain, why not someone like Kim Gordan or Kathleen Hannah? What about Michael Stipe (another white dude, but he’s at least a good a singer as almost anyone else on that list).
So many great singers…
Hell yeah!
I was referring to your listing of Aretha, Sinead, Marvin, etc.
Oh sure!
Sam and Dave…
What band were they in?
Edit: David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar?
The perfect example of a frontwoman who could out-sing a solid 6 out of ten of these dudes, and yet! What a shit list.
This place is vicious, right?
Oh, a few singers that are probably a bit more off the beaten path, but pretty incredibly - Lisa Gerrard of the Dead Can Dance, Elisabeth Fraser from the Cocteau Twins, and Leslie Rankin of Ruby…
