I really hope she went home and packed some bags and left for a friend’s house. Or has a parent who divorced his racist ass and she lives with them.
The superintendent seemed to handle it well and I appreciate how the rest of the staff tried to get back on track quickly. They also seemed to be visually checking on the girl
Usually the school board hires the superintendent, so I could see a bunch of racists being angry at the SBP for hiring someone not-white for the position and claiming the hire was a waste of resources. The second article states a complaint about two POC getting salary increases, as part of the reason for the recall. Those two POC receive salaries that are between 2.5 and 3 times the Sauk county annual household income.
I can’t say this is why there is a recall effort, because there are also complaints about a budget deficit, cuts in building staffing with no cuts in admin staffing, lack of teacher support, etc., with no deeper analysis, but I wouldn’t rule it out, either.
A lot of reasons to avoid this guy and hit the black man. Racism and don’t wanting to be beaten. Some apocryphal anecdotes are flying around how the guy was trying to avenge her daughter because She was a bullying victim. But again, why did He choose to harass the only black man on stage?
As the article points out, the salary increase for Briggs put him barely above the bottom of the list in relation to equivalent positions in other schools in the same district.
His low pay in itself appears to be discrimination. I hope this was an equity adjustment and wish it had been greater. But jealously politics can be very strong, especially when someone in the “out-group” does better than oneself.
Sauk County is 91.5% white, 4.7% Hispanic, and less than 1.5% Black, Asian, mixed, or other each.
Without further information, from the outside this whole situation looks …. not good.
