The reason we keep noting that Donald Trump is a misogynist white supremacist who was utterly unqualified for the Presidency isn’t “sour grapes,” it’s because he keeps saying and doing things that make it impossible for us to forget it.
The last two Democratic nominees for the Presidency were also the first two times in the history of the United States that a major party nominated a candidate who wasn’t a straight white Christian male. In fact even the runners-up in the 2008 and 2016 Democratic primaries weren’t straight white Christian males, being female and Jewish, respectively.
So while I salute the Republican party for briefly entertaining the possibility of a non-white or non-male candidate, I’m not ready to concede that the GOP has any real “diversity” cred considering they nominated an utterly unqualified buffoon who ran on an explicitly white supremacist platform.
