Why "All Lives Matter" instead of "Black Lives Matter" is such a stupid thing to say

I do heartily agree that All lives matter has a dismissive usage that makes it a phrase worth avoiding in the current discussion of Police on Black Crime.

I do wish that there could be some more discussion around the general modernization of police training and tactics. Police are training to shoot threats dead. Racism means they see African Americans as an inherent threat, but others can get on their hit list too. Even if cops treated everyone equally there would be more to be done so that we aren’t policing through violence and intimidation.

The greedy part of me applauds this very loudly–by raising the quality of life for the most trod upon, it will undoubtedly raise my quality of life.

Here’s the thing… you went out, and saw what this was all about, and were able to re-calibrate your views… That says a hell of a lot about you, I think…

But such advocacy groups would not attempt to subvert and belittle other successful movements. That’s the difference.

?

I didn’t say they would…

ETA: And which advocacy groups are you saying do attempt to subvert and belittle other successful movements?

Totally agree.

I know I’ve linked to Slacktivist’s Good Jackie, Bad Jackie post a number of times over the years. It’s OK to be wrong (no one is always right): it’s how you handle it when you’re wrong that shows your character.

I don’t ignore or disregard any of them, but none of those answers explained anything. They gave either rhetoric, illogic, or irrationality. The “reason” as to why it’s not okay to believe, and in turn express, that all lives matter, is still unanswered here. If I am to condense what I am told, it is only that “you shouldn’t say it because somebody doesn’t like it if you do.” But that’s not a reason why it’s bad, it’s a (poor) reason not to say it. It doesn’t explain the values and criteria behind the determination that it is wrong to say (and presumably, to likewise believe). Why is it not be okay to express a belief in equality stated in simple and unambiguous terms? “Because reasons” or “because somebody’s baseless opinion” is not an explanation, it’s just excuses.

I’ll bite.

Black lives being terminated by LEO at almost double the rate of white lives by ratio is a P1 bug.

Therefore:

Similar to “all P1 bugs matter” contrasted with “all bugs matter” is analogous to “black lives matter” contrasted with “all lives matter”.

And yet that’s exactly what you’re doing. Excuses, baseless opinion…anything but admit that you don’t believe all lives matter equally. (Hint: saying you do means nothing.)

That statement only carries if you deliberately ignore all context related to the discussion.

Here’s what you’re doing;

Wearing blackface in a play. Your excuse/reason? “But my character was black in the book, I just want to be accurate!?” When told why that isn’t done anymore you respond that you had nothing to do with any of that.

Smiling at Auschwitz in a selfie. Then you do one with duckface. People comment that it’s inappropriate. You respond “Hey I felt happy, I didn’t have anything to do with what happened there!! Stop censoring me!”

etc etc ad nauseam

In this instance, you claim that all of the discussion, all of the context, all of the history amounts to

And that’s completely, stupid, banal, wilfully blind-ignorance to such an extent you are probably a trolley. Admittedly, you could be simply stupid, you don’t make paragraphs and that’s a concrete sign that it’s possible. I give you more credit, I think you’re a simple trolley.

You shouldn’t say it in any context of #blacklivesmatter because it undermines the cause that it was copied from by dilution, it obscures what others are trying to say, it was created very likely for that purpose and has certainly been used that way if it was just some idiot that doesn’t know what’s going on.

By the way, you did ignore and disregard all of the context to draw your conclusion.

ignore - refuse to take notice of or acknowledge; disregard intentionally, fail to consider (something significant).

But they did, I see them clearly, you could say that you disagree, that you think differently, that you remain unconvinced. But you don’t, you give no reason for why you think as you do. You must not be serious. You can’t ignore that All lives matter isn’t challenged by Black lives matter since Black lives matter is the actual movement in action, you can’t then ignore that All lives matter, at best, is an attempt to modify the scope of Black lives matter (I believe a misguided attempt (at best)), and at worst, and in practice, a derail.

All lives matter is the thing that needs to be legitimized to the people who are actually out on the street attempting to make a difference for themselves and their families.

See, that’s where you make no sense at all. If you want to say that All lives matter is a valid logical statement then yeah, great. BIG FUCKING DEAL. If you mean to say that what others should care for and what labels they should use should pass some unknowable approval board run by people who so much miss the point of the movement that they challenge their rallying cries, then I’m afraid you might not give a pass to many successful slogans of the past:

Caller-“Say it loud!”
Group Response- “I’m Black And I’m Proud”

or

“Blacks Protests N’Justice”

(Get it? iN’justice?)
Oh and this one will make your logical head spin:

“non-violence or non-existence”

And you STILL haven’t justified why “lives matter” is an effective slogan at all under your rules (Black or otherwise), that you would attempt to co opt an existing movement and attempt to change its concerns.

When you get tired, Here’s a buzzfeed listicle of things with names you might find unfortunate you can contest.
You’ll find the same disadvantage there as well, the products are already established and incredibly enough accepted by those who would purchase them.

Of course, if you want to make a point, then go ahead, I’m listening, It probably makes sense in your head, but not in your post, do try to voice your concerns if you care to be taken seriously.

Beautiful illustration!!!

“Stop killing us!” is not asking for special privilege, except to those excusing the deaths.

Why do some people do deeply hate equality/equity?

Sad that one has to deal with so much bloviation before worthless racists reveal their nature. At least you know you’re not getting anywhere by the proud ones. The ones who pretend to not be just waste everyone’s time.
