I think the cause and effect is the other way around. Bosses will often take subordinates out and pick up the tab because they make more, rather than making more so that they can take subordinates out. My company has an informal system for splitting the bill where rank and file employees pay like 30 bucks and bosses pay more like 100, and sometimes the big boss will come along and lay down a few hundred, reducing everyone else’s bill. It’s kind of a way to show off while also showing subordinates that you care.
