Why are (some) transhumanists such dicks?

What I find funny are the people who add magnets purely for the ability to attach devices. Not for a days or power connection, just so they can be a flesh fridge, or a glorified tchotchke shelve. Is not add bad add having a forehead tattoo advertising a casino, but it’s pretty close.

I thought the tiny magnets people implant into a finger can be used to feel for currents in wires.

Though considering the number of steel piercings in sensitive places among the body mod community, there may be a sexual use.

I suppose there must be some unfortunate anecdotes out there about misadventures involving piercings and rare-earth magnets.

And thus we circle round to the title of the post.

Funny it is, but it is also interesting. Because the people who do it for silly aesthetic-only reasons are providing us with long term biocompatibility data that are useful for those who want similar (albeit smaller) magnets for feeling magnetic fields.

The more people do such things, for whatever reasons, the more experimental data we get, the more tattoo studios with operators experienced with the materials and techniques we get. I’d say it’s a good thing, overall.

Cf. wearing high heels. That is uncomfortable, unergonomical, harmful for feet, makes the wearers feel miserable, and there’s no gain in it for anybody.

Oh, come now…

Just imagine the above quote said in a stern dominatrix voice…

And Darwin award winners are also providing us with data-points.

Doesn’t mean I don’t think they are stupid and silly.

I agree. Plus, if the good Lord had meant for us to wear high heels, why did he give us platform shoes?!!!
