Why country music was awful in 2013

One thing I do have to give Nashville: Nashvile Notation, in which chord changes are recorded as I-IV-V rather than tied to specific keys. It makes a lot of sense sense for session musicians who need to assume they’re going to spend a lot of their time playing the song transposed to whatever key is comfortable for the lead performer.

My grandfather was a sheriff and a judge in a dry county. He also had a barn full of horses. Before he passed away, he said these words to me which I will never forget:

‘If you can’t kick the shit to it, what good is it?’

And there’s your problem right there. I can’t imagine kicking anything but the back of my own head to this noise.

I suppose Big & Rich is great background music for beating perps for sport and enforcing the war on drugs (legal and otherwise.)
