You are correct.
I also tried to watch T80S, and found it completely lacking as compared to T70S… especially as a person who actually grew up during the 80’s.
None of the characters were memorable let alone likable IMO, and the attempt at pandering to my specific generation just felt cliched and trite.
That 70s Show was not about the seventies; it was about a group of teens growing up in the seventies.
That 80s Show was about the eighties and had just cookie-cutter characters saying and doing eighties things ad nauseam.
That’s my exact take on it as well.
