Why don't you flag?

And that overreaction manifests as bullying.

Whether is occurs everyday is immaterial.

You didnā€™t read carefully, she flagged my posts and got them deleted, and in the 1st case also her over-reactionary posts. This is about content flagging, with no offensive or personal aspect to the comments. Does a member have the right to shut down and have deleted a non offensive discussion they find upsetting for personal reasons? Can I have a thread about clowns deleted if I find them scary, rather than choosing not to read it?

Well, should a comment inherently be non-flaggable because person making the posts doesnā€™t find them offensive?

Does a member have the power to?

If comments are deleted, itā€™s because the mods have decided that they warranted deletion.

Q: You canā€™t prove your argument, provide an example!

A: Hereā€™s an example

Q: Why are you bringing that up? Are you trying to pick on that person?

Yes, and recall that his anecdote is a fact and anybody elseā€™s anecdote isā€¦ anecdotal.

I think it is very, very important to remember that there are multiple, inconsistent moderators involved.

Howsā€™s this for a rationalized response from the mod. Continuing to discuss an interesting topic that another member was also interested in was deemed ā€œbaitingā€. I responded that you canā€™t allow members to unilaterally declare BBS their ā€œsafe spaceā€ and flag offenders.

I think you both made some errors here. Yours was to bait someone you know can be reactive after a sensitive topic had been brought and they had asked no longer to discuss it. While I agree that it isnā€™t in the best form to bring up a topic, and then stop discussion of it, itā€™s also not great to come back and demand discussion of it after both parties involved agreed not to discuss it.

You canā€™t change people, only your reactions to them.

@OtherMichael is right that this is a subject that erases itā€™s evidence by definition.

Except you said she overreacted and her posts were deleted. Why are you assuming it was her influence that got your post deleted when the posts after were deleted as well?

Because there was truly nothing offensive in my posts, the topic was fucking agriculture! Iā€™d prove it to you, BUT THEYā€™RE DELETED!!

Not trying to derail, but iOS BBS performance has declined in general. I used to spend a lot of time on the BBS on iOS a few years ago, then switched to the collection of bugs, glitches, and malware known as ā€˜Androidā€™, and when I dropped and destroyed that phone recently, I begrudgingly gave some more money to Apple to hide in some tropical bank account, and I have a really hard time posting on iOS. The ā€˜Quoteā€™ feature is entirely broken, so that I have to select the text I want to quote, then try again to get the ā€˜Quoteā€™ pop-up icon to appear, then hope it responds when I touch it, and if it does, replace the inaccurate and partial text with the text I pre-copied earlier. It also occasionally stops letting me select text or interact with interface elements.

If you ever want to re-check your posts for whatever reason, you can go to your user page, Activity, and thereā€™s a ā€œDownload My Postsā€ option.

I think itā€™s more like:

Q: You are using a lot of inflammatory language to describe someone elseā€™s behaviour while saying you were totally reasonable. Maybe you should think twice about whether you had a part in the whole thing.

A: I was being totally reasonable but I canā€™t show you because it was moderated away.

Q: Sighā€¦

You seriously need to stop and consider the possibility that your posts were flagged and removed because your posts were offensive or problematic. And if you are unwilling to consider that possibility, then you have to at least accept that the rest of us have no reason to think that your account is unbiased or accurate. Even if you are totally in the right here, Iā€™m just not going to know it.

No, weā€™re talking about @codinghorror. His assessment is based on his ability to and habit of actually reviewing flags for statistical purposes. Heā€™s obviously not perfect, and it might not be a question heā€™s studied in a sufficiently robust way, but his observations on the subject are just a lot more valid than the rest of ours. His assessment that banning-for-purity isnā€™t happening means a lot more to me than someoneā€™s anecdotes about being banned-for-purity.

Every time, on this and other forums, Iā€™ve seen a post that was later banned - the author of which said was banned to maintain ideology - the post in question has been obviously offensive; banning it has been welcome; and the author has convinced themselves that they did no wrong. Thatā€™s my anecdote that shouldnā€™t be given more weight than anyone elseā€™s anecdote.

There are a couple of ways to read that from the mod. If someone said something like that to me, Iā€™d think, ā€œOh, they think Iā€™m a problematic person who picks fights and they just want me to go away without arguing about it.ā€ I donā€™t know if thatā€™s what that mod meant on that day, but itā€™s just as good a reading as the one you are giving it.

I get that, but what you are saying doesnā€™t match your narrative. The entire series of posts was deleted and the origin, despite not being inflammatory, was caught in the moderation.

You are then turning that into this:
Iā€™ve been ā€œflag bulliedā€ by a ā€œdarlingā€.
When the reality is that a third party walked into a thread cold and deleted everything and caught too much. Thatā€™s super common in every forum from the dawn of the internet to today, hell it is common on 4chan let alone a small heavily moderated online community like this one.

Do you have any evidence that a BBS ā€œdarlingā€ got an unfair advantage in some fashion besides your post being deleted when theirs was?

Came to post this. This conversation would go {amok in the} muck {much} quicker without the pussyfooting around.

Edited because @Phrenological is a funny guy.
