Why Hillary Clinton's DNC speech was 'a moon landing' for women

My understanding was it was developed under her leadership, not before she was elected PM. In any event, that doesn’t really counter the point I was trying to make.

The nuclear weapons were at her disposal when her the country was being invaded from both the Sinai and Golan Heights. So that would make her the head of a nuclear power at the time.

Technically you’re right, I worded things badly; I should have said “elected”. One reason Clinton is a big deal is that in the US a traditional argument against electing women has been a narrative that women aren’t tough enough to be in charge of launching a nuclear war.

I don’t think it is an argument that is sensible in a parliamentary system, since a PM is elected by other ministers, not popularly, and the main criteria for selection have to do with party leadership.

But when you think about it, we have no idea what qualities are necessary for waging nuclear war, since we have no experience in doing so. The only qualities I can think of which are useful is having the sanity and foresight not to do it by accident or without reason.

The idea that women can’t be leaders because they lack some essential male quality is ridiculous, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t an idea that has plagued elections in the US and elsewhere.

I would point out that the bolded part isn’t exactly correct; WWII was a nuclear war at the end, and you could argue that the cold war was a nuclear war.

I’m tipping no, because the fact would be obscured somewhat by the evil not bothering to even wear a mask. It’s a bit hard to cheer for a female lizard person who isn’t even wearing a skin suit.

There was a completely amazing series of tweets responding to this twit, and I’ve been just waiting for the opportunity to share - I’ll just paste the tweets here, editing out some @ for better readability

That’s got to be the most fragile masculinity I’ve ever heard tell of.

creaks in rocker There’s an ol’ legend in these hills of a masculinity that fragile…
Moonshiner said he saw it once, a long way off. Like glass it was, or hoarfrost on a hog.
‘Course everybody said he was drinkin’ corn likker. Man that pitiful couldn’t REALLY exist.
They say on dark nights, you kin hear his insecurities rattlin’ together like rosary beads.
Me, I don’t pass judgment. Lotta things in these hills. rocks

I saw some of that, but missed Ursula Vernon’s response (even though I follow her). Thanks for posting it!
