Why people don't return shopping carts

Just so everyone knows. I just returned my shopping cart. BUT. I walked right past 5 errant carriages and did not return those out of spite. :wink:

I was thinking of a much earlier time. Not a perfect time, with all the discrimination and polio and such, but at least where I was, people were more polite and made an effort to look presentable.

But you have a very valid point. My first job was at a full service gas station, and we had to be very polite and look presentable. Not quite this but close:

The last time I went to a full service station in the US was in New Jersey, and it was not a comparable experience. The attendants were pretty surly. But many stations in Japan are very much like the US stations of old.
