I’ve just recently acquired some tools and having to work in inches and feet really puts me off woodworking, just because I’m stuck with the sizes wood comes in.
I think the Potrzebie should be the official unit of length for BoingBoing.

On a MAD-related note, I remember “Nov shmoz ka pop” would turn up circa 1979-80, though having Googled the phrase, I see it originated with Gene Ahern.
This one seriously messed with my head:
My wife is Ethiopian, so it isn’t unusual for me to see something written in Amharic (like a note on the fridge, for example). However, I did a double-take when I found this Ethiopian lettering in Issue #30 (December 1956). (From the Absolutely MAD DVD-ROM) Turns out the other pages in that issue had Cyrillic lettering, etc.
(Not sure what it says, roughly “letamerenos” which, as far as we know, doesn’t mean anything.)

Not meaning to be pedantic, just sharing a fun fact that surprises me every time I re-learn it: A whole bunch of countries drive on the left, and several of those countries have… quite a few people in them. Left-handed drivers aren’t the 5%-nation that they look like from a eurocentric viewpoint.

Very well. Some people apparently are serious about delegitimizing argument. I think it’s found in “postcolonial theory–” the idea that the intercourse of ideas, also known as argumentation. constitutes violence against the indefensible.

As much as I love metric I just can’t imagine changing from horsepower to kilowatts or PS (aka metric horsepower). That’s just weird to me.
