I’ve just recently acquired some tools and having to work in inches and feet really puts me off woodworking, just because I’m stuck with the sizes wood comes in.

This one seriously messed with my head:
My wife is Ethiopian, so it isn’t unusual for me to see something written in Amharic (like a note on the fridge, for example). However, I did a double-take when I found this Ethiopian lettering in Issue #30 (December 1956). (From the Absolutely MAD DVD-ROM) Turns out the other pages in that issue had Cyrillic lettering, etc.
(Not sure what it says, roughly “letamerenos” which, as far as we know, doesn’t mean anything.)
Not meaning to be pedantic, just sharing a fun fact that surprises me every time I re-learn it: A whole bunch of countries drive on the left, and several of those countries have… quite a few people in them. Left-handed drivers aren’t the 5%-nation that they look like from a eurocentric viewpoint.

As much as I love metric I just can’t imagine changing from horsepower to kilowatts or PS (aka metric horsepower). That’s just weird to me.
