I had to check out the three-story townhouse because I was intrigued. It looks like a day care center. Just awful. Cruise ships aren’t my thing though so maybe this is normal.

That is crazy to me. For $100k/wk when they said it “sleeps up to 8” I definitely did not imagine that meant 1 “grown up” bedroom, 4 kids in one bunk room and 2 people on a pull-out sofa in the living room.
I guess people could sleep in the little nook or on the catamaran-style net, but it seems a very inefficient use of space. (I guess we could say that of the entire endeavor, though, lol.)
I’d never be in there, but if I were the first thing I’d have to do is cover that dining table with something. Ugh.
And, “we accommodate 8” but each balcony has only a couple seats, and even the “theater” has only 4. This is clearly targeted towards a market I do not understand.

I’m agreeing, not disputing with you.

Two rooms for TV?

The slide looks fun for kids and all the couches to jump on and climb. Assuming I had the money and would ever spend it that way, my kid would have 20 children between 2 and 12 in there playing in under an hour. Talk about an attractive nuisance

You’re agreeing that crows will likely attack the ship?

That was totally the first thing that came to mind when I wrote it! The Crows Have Eyes has ousted The Birds from my pop-culture bird movie references.

I really wish they’d just make those movies for reals, tho. I’d totally go to the cinema for that…

If this is what they used to use to cross the English Channel / La Manche, I remember a lot of cancellations whenever seas were rough (which they often were).

Ah, crossing the channel by Hovercraft in rough-ish weather. Deafening noise from the turbines and the props while the waves hit the skirt, making it sway in all possible and at least two impossible directions at once, prompting half the passengers reach for the barf bags… Good times!

Plus they tend to take on eels.

You’re right that taxation is the key to addressing the degree of wealth concentration that is strangling our economy. But providing jobs DOES create demand for the sorts of things that regular working stiffs buy, because the people employed ARE regular working stiffs. The problem isn’t so much that rich people buy different stuff, it’s that:
1.) Only part of the money that rich people spend on rich people crap goes to employing people. Plenty of it goes to the stockholders of the companies providing the good/service and to the banks and bondholders that funded it. And THAT does just make inequality worse.
2.) In this case most of the people employed in creating and crewing cruise ships are foreigners. While this may well help to alleviate wealth inequality on a global scale (all those crew members sending money home is going to assist their local economy) it does very little to lower inequality within the U.S.
