RECORD COLLECTIONS. We BUY any record collection. Any style of music. We pay HIGHER prices than anyone else.
That fall, eight empty semitrailers, each 53 feet long, arrived outside Mawhinney’s warehouse in Pittsburgh. The convoy left, heavy with vinyl. Mawhinney never met the buyer.
“I don’t know a thing about him — nothing,” Mawhinney told me. “I just know all the records were shipped to Brazil.”
Considering the collection I’ve amassed in relative poverty, I empathize with the spirit of Freitas. I’m not sure I’d have the same mania, but with the resources afforded me as the scion of a bus magnate, I could see myself going that direction. After the shop I used to manage shut down, I’ve pretty much broken the habit of new purchases. Paring it down is such a pain, though.
I’ve got a couple of crates I should try to lay on him. I wonder if he bothers with small purchases anymore.
