I laughed at this, assuming this logo – literally Avant Garde extra bold with a skewed exclamation point – was an internal design done in five minutes. But it’s a Michael Bierut design from Pentagram, so, yeah. They paid one of the world’s top identity designers many thousands of dollars to type their name in Avant Garde.

And their Brand Identity Narrative never explains why the dang dot on the exclamation point is annoyingly off center.

How have they not gone out of business yet.

Saw the headline and thought “Yahoo still exists?!?”

Because how else are we going to find out what food gut doctors are begging us to throw out while also learning about the devastating comeback Amanda Bynes has for the haters?

Jeez, it’s like they don’t even teach you kids basic economics anymore.

I really have to get in on this logo identity racket. I’m a middling-to-low graphic designer, but I know I can write a knock-your-socks-off BS brand identity narrative and put together a stylebook for different applications.

When you have a company this large the real cost of a logo redesign isn’t hiring the designer (though Bierut doesn’t work cheap), it’s implementing the new visual identity across countless pieces of digital media and physical collateral. Every web page, popup ad, business card, embroidered polo shirt, company car, etc. needs an update now.

The next logo refresh will be “Ya, Who?”

Funny story: you know that hip new release of Link’s Awakening? One of very few changes Nintendo made to the “virtual console” release was to change the dialog of an old woman from “YAHOO!” to the considerably less-charming “YIPEE!” The only conceivable explanation is that someone along the way had overblown concerns about trademark infringement.

She’s back to saying YAHOO! again in the Switch release. Perhaps the people involved changed their minds, or perhaps those questionable concerns were completely forgotten – or perhaps someone anticipated this change?

Really, they should have added a couple more exclamation points, to shout louder because people are forgetting who or what Yahoo is these days.

Tsk! They should have gone for a CGI view of the Titanic with the deck chairs rearranged to spell Yahoo!

I don’t hate it to be honest. It’s fairly plain but i do dig the exclamation mark, it’s also nowhere near as self-importanty stupid as the Staples logo, as its been mentioned on here already.

Indeed. I looked at a few of their other search options - news, images, recipes, and they still had the old logo.
And I can guarantee it wasn’t in my cache. ; )

Ugh, catching up on Amanda Bynes turned out to be a far sadder read than I had anticipated. How the heck does Nickelodeon keep turning kids into f’d up adults?

Still just a bunch of Yahoos. You can’t rebrand your way to being Houyhnhnms.
