The biggest mistake is choosing to fly it isn’t absolutely necessary.
Or just read the Huffpost article that this one “borrows” from
Not mentioned: make sure that if you have a connecting flight, that the connection is in the same airport. Otherwise you may find yourself in a taxi going from JFK to LaGuardia
I was recently booking some travel for the fam, and there were some decent prices and departure times on American. But I ended up booking elsewhere because almost every single RDU->NYC flight by American included a 30 minute layover in Charlotte.
Now Charlotte is relatively small and efficient for a hub, but I don’t know in what universe American has decided that a 30-minute layover is adequate. One minor weather or mechanical delay and you’ve already missed your connection. And yet it seems to be part of their standard practice for RDU connections.
Anyway, since I didn’t want to end up stranded 90 minutes from home at the American terminal due to some avoidable snafu, I picked a different airline with acceptable layovers. (For more money, natch.)
Also, pretty much any airport can call themselves ‘international’ even with just one weekly flight that crosses a border.
Huh?
I guess they just needed something to make it a top ten list.
My guess is that if the algorithm smells desperation it might start cranking up prices. But who knows.
It’s a persistent myth that the airlines track repeated searches for flights and raise the prices accordingly:
I’m guessing that one person’s definition of “necessary” might not match another’s exactly, but in any event who wants to limit themselves to doing things that are “absolutely necessary?” That seems like a pretty dull life.
It just reads like an peace designed to get you to spend more than you need to. All these things save you money, but you should not do them, cos we said so…
