I have real trouble doing anything with the coins but making the static images spin in a circle. All the other ones work just fine for me.
Yeah, the coins are off.
What is this device of which you speak?

Those kind of animations need a shutter to work, in this case the phone. For Zoetropes, the vertical slots doe the job.
On a turntable in a darkened booth they would also be illuminated (and animated) by the deck light that drives the zoetrope dots on the edge of the platter.
