I would surmise the reason for the schizophrenic costume changes would be the scattershot of pop culture that year. So many great movies, TV shows, and music around that time, with a wide range of genre, and all of it having a longer shelf life then due to the lack of distraction brought on by a boundless internet. But then there were only a handful of widely watched TV stations, too, I think. Most people watched the same channels, so you had to cater to everybody, I figure.

There are two things I can’t stand in this world:

The cowboy bit is a tie in the to the popularity of Rhinestone Cowboy and the Bellamy Brothers tour in Europe. ‘Cowboy’ was a big fad at the time.
