That is a damn fine-looking robot. I’m going to guess that its purpose is to take falls gracefully? Every inch of it is covered in rollcage except the arms, and those end in what appear to be rubber shock absorbers. It looks like the idea is that it can fall and catch itself on its “hands” like a human would. One of the big stumbling blocks for human-mimicking robots has been that erect bipeds that are just learning to walk tend to fall over a lot, and a fall from six feet does massive damage to delicate servos.

So they’re looking to make the world’s first robot that can genuinely move like a human in human spaces. Sounds great to me. Steel is the new flesh.
