“We have no doubt that the Starr County District Attorney, and his office, were well-aware that Texas law exempts a woman who receives an abortion, by any means, from a murder charge and yet chose to pursue an unjust and unconstitutional indictment,”

Well sure, but how were these two DAs supposed to get ahead in Texas Republican politics without performing a wantonly cruel act that panders to Xtianists?

How is that a defense? Isn’t that a core responsibility of the office?

Besides this case, I have to assume she has a HIPAA case against whoever disclosed her taking it in the first place. That one is going to hurt someone bad.

And it’s so OBVIOUSLY bullshit. There’s no way this theocratic political theater would have happened without his approval and involvement–otherwise he would have immediately gotten rid of whatever “rogue element” in his office pursued it.

Toothy grin, soulless eyes. Not surprised he’s unapologetically inept.

Depends on who it was. HIPAA only applies to medical offices. If it was a family member or “friend” there is no case. That said, if it was her doctor or an employee of the practice, they are and should be very very screwed.

Too bad she can’t send them to jail. A financial judgement just doesn’t cut it in this case.

“We’re just prosecuting these cases, we have no idea what they actually are! How were we supposed to know what the basic facts were… which we misrepresented to a grand jury.”

After Gonzalez was examined at Starr County Memorial Hospital, staff reported the abortion to the Starr County District Attorney’s Office, in violation of federal privacy laws, the document alleges.

They aren’t part of the suit - yet - but they really should be.

But he’s faithfully following the christo-repub book of conduct. Get caught bigly for doing something stupid, throw those disposable people under the nearest bus and claim ignorance!
