Needs more Ashgabat.

Most of these buildings could be anywhere in the world. They’re mostly just very 90s post-modern with a few ‘local’ features. Except for the ones which are pure wedding-cake Stalinist throwbacks.

Yes. I wonder if that monument to the Ruhnama is still there in Ashgabat now that Niyazov is dead.

A lot of his monuments to himself have been taken down—most notably the golden statue of himself that rotated so it was always facing the sun, though it has been rebuilt in the middle of nowhere—and I didn’t see the Ruhnama monument when I was there but from the wiki it sounds like it is.
