Other fun ways to deal with a vampire:
Stuff a lemon in is mouth.
Stuff its heart with millet then boil the heart in wine.
Remove the skull and put it under the corpse’s feet. Being confined in the coffin it can’t sit up and put its head back on.

That could have been just how this person was murdered. As Buffy once said, you’d be surprised how many things that’ll kill.
(it’s useful to hold a stake if demonstrating, though)
