What "the worst ride in Disney World" teaches us about media strategy

The original Imagination ride was one of the most visually creative rides Imagineering ever put together. Looking back at old photos of the ride and ImageWorks, and it’s hard to believe that it was shut down for the piece of crap it was replaced with. The current ride is a marginal improvement on the late-90s Figment-less ride, but there’s no joy or beauty in that pavilion anymore, sadly.

20 years ago it was awesome. 15 years ago they ruined it (twice) and it’s been horrible since.

You’ll need to expand on this one. Comic Sans is hated for its ubiquity and its laziness. I’m not sure you can say the same of “It’s a small world.”

They closed Maelstrom?! For a Frozen-themed ride?! Why do they hate Norway so much that they needed to Princessify Akershus, Maelstrom, and the Stave Church?

Fuck you, Iger. And fuck you too, “[Thomas O. Staggs][1]”.

(What does it say about Disney’s commitment to the parks that they put an investment-banker-turned-bookkeeper whose boasts are excessive M&As and cost-cutting in charge of their crown jewels?)

Also, it doesn’t really “fit” Epcot. Epcot is supposed to be about the real world with basically a permanent World’s Fair. Yes, the kingdom in Frozen is vaguely Scandinavian, but it isn’t really Norway.

Its the under appreciated work horse that everyone shits on? Maybe a bit tenuous but the sentiment felt right at the time…

Actually according to this EPCOT is supposed to be a model city of the future but Walt died and the people left changed it into a world’s fair like thing.

Yes it’s about the Peoplemover but there’s several minutes about the original point of EPCOT or Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow.
