Does Nino Rota count as pop music?
As much as I love Combustible Edison and Esquivel and think everyone should hear them… maybe these should be in awesome song thread?

And for reference from La Dolce Vita (everyone here has see this movie right? Cause I will hunt you down if you haven’t)

I’ve been taking a lot of liberties with the term pop. I’ll leave it to @hello_friends since he started the thread. I’ll move them if there are objections.

It’s important to remember that when this song was released, being openly gay was still a felony almost everywhere. Jimmy Somerville had more courage than any of the supposedly revolutionary punk musicians of the time.

Some musicians were openly gay earlier. Tom Robinson scared away a lot of his fans with this. It still got into the UK top 20 as a B-side.

Okay,

Here’s your ridiculously specific genre of the day:

Oddly cheerful 80s songs about nuclear war

The Jam- Going Underground

OMD- Enola Gay

Queen- Hammer to Fall

Ultravox- All Fall Down

Nena- 99 Luftbaloons

Frankie Goes to Hollywood- Two Tribes.

I’ll pretend that it isn’t because it’s St Cuthbert’s Day today.

Jimmy Nail, Tim Healy and Kevin Whately - Blaydon Races

I suppose I could try to combine the two though, in some kind of way.
