It’s one of the “points of sanity” in my home state.
I’ve checked in on friends and found family in Ohio, West Virginia, and Tennessee. So far everyone is okay, although not completely untouched.
Based on what I’m seeing online, this is an enormous disaster, and it will take a good long while to get an idea just how big, and how wide-spread it is.
Someone described it as several Katrinas spread across the Appalachia.
And Trump’s response is to continue insisting that climate change is a hoax and a scam.
People can ignore a lot when they put their minds to it, but it’s hard to ignore your whole dang community getting washed away.
There are still concerns about the Lake Lure dam, and the number of small towns that have been destroyed or completely isolated is staggering. What pisses me off about the coverage is how they’re interviewing business owners about their losses while survivors are searching for food and water or trying to get assistance despite power outages, Internet outages, and lack of cell service:
He’s also pulling publicity stunts while our current administration is doing the responsible thing (taking the advice of emergency management officials and keeping out of the way while they work).
My mom’s in Mitchell County, NC, just south of those two black counties in the outage map. She’s fine, but they’re out of power and water, and probably won’t be able to stay much longer if things aren’t restored soon. It’s crazy how much destruction this storm caused.
Four days after Biden gave them a blank check and Kemp thanked him. Trump also lied about Biden and Kemp talking.
A bunch of sociopathic liars who see the victims of Helene as nothing but political props. Scum!
busick. 30". is that in per qm or squarefeet? cause that would be a lot already in qm, but in ft² that would be…just insane.
“I haven’t heard the environmental stuff mentioned in six months."
yes, donnie, we know you didnt. which is also a fucking lie as usual. mf.
As far as I can tell, rainfall in inches is per square yard, or 9 square feet. Which is 0.836 square meters.
So… if I didn’t make any conversion errors, 30.78" per square yard is 935 mm of rain. Which is 935 liters, almost a cubic meter, of water per every square meter. No wonder there is massive flooding!
thnx. always forgetting yard.
jfc. thats almost the average rainfall in berlin for two years!
This will become the new normal. When the dead from this event are finally counted, it’ll be about the same order of magnitude lost as 9/11. Exxon knew they were causing climate destruction, as far back as 1977. They, and their co-conspirators, should be on the hook for this, and future events.
