Between COVID, Ukraine and, now, winter storms; the airlines are having a tough time of it.

They’ve been giving travelers a hard time of it for decades in the name of profit. This too will be taken out on their customers rather than affect their bottom line.

I’ve learned the hard way not to fly by choice between early January and mid-March. As the climate emergency increases the frequency of extreme weather I’m sticking with that plan.

It would be nice if the airlines had a similar capability to plan. These storms weren’t exactly unexpected.

I’m surprised to see MSP and DTW on that list. Those airports are usually more reliable than others during the winter, and are more likely to have delays due to thunderstorms in the summer. I mean, they have more snow plows than airplanes!

Well, an ice storm in southern lower peninsula Michigan and heavy snow in the Twin Cities is much more of a March thing, not a February thing. :woman_shrugging:

[psst… @DukeTrout . There are limits at each airport. We’ve hit 'em.]

I wonder if there will be a break even point where it makes sense to invest in high speed rail. I mean it makes sense now, but wonder if the political will to do so will exist.

IDK 80f and sunny here in Virginia tomorrow. What storm?

Come on over! BBQ on me. Sandals optional.

At 11:30 am, we’re still hovering around 50F here in Tijuana.

We’re about to leave on a 40 minute drive to a vet here in Michigan.

So far freezing rain, our side streets are pretty icy but I keep checking the freeway cameras along our route, they appear wet with normal traffic flow.

I’m hoping they are dumping all that save up salt from a mild winter here. With all the money the counties have saved in plowing and salting they should be able to afford a private escort for us.

We’ll be coming home after dark when the temps are supposed to drop and the freezing rain, snow and ice are supposed to increase. Hopefully it’s another storm prediction that doesn’t materialize but I did gas up the generator and get a days worth of gas just in case.

Well, the forecast says possible snow by Saturday so it will be a quick BBQ event. Like going to Cuba for the weekend!

There was a really weird day back at uni that was 80F for the high, which only dropped to about 68F by midnight, but the next morning, around 9 am, there was 5"! of snow on the ground. It was so confusing. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

@tcg550: careful out there tonight! This is our poor weeping peach right now:

That’s what our trees looked like. The drive was good, freeways and main roads were just wet but our road was ice and our driveway and porch were break a hip territory.

This morning it’s all ice.

Gonna go spread some calcium chloride in case our delivery person shows up.

So today all that ice in the 60 year old silver maple tree towering over my house is raining down, it’s pretty loud as it hit the roof. Our deaf cat is sleeping peacefully, the others are hiding under anything they can.
