There’s a reason I made my addendum at the end. Women (and others) know that you don’t risk violence when mere words are enough. You risk¹ violence when the other party won’t listen.
¹ For anyone thinking this excuses police violence on people “resisting”, risk is a condition of power. When you have power, you risk nothing in getting violent. When fighting back can get you killed, that’s when it’s a risk.
