2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1)

Yle (Finnish Broadcasting Company) has news in Finnish, simple Finnish, Finnish Sign Language, Swedish, Sámi, Russian, English (this seem to be only on the radio) and used to have Latin.

According to Maaseudun tulevaisuus (Future of The Countryside) Novosti Yle (Finnish Russian language tv news) has doubled its audience from 225 000 (2021) to 400 000 (2022) and their website has had 60% more visits in a week (this was a week ago) from 160 000 to 250 000 (10% from Russia). There are about 80 000 Russian speakers in Finland.

Yeah… the Dayton accord did not get to the heart of the problem in the region, sadly, as there was never any kind of reconciliation over what happened (among other things). Too many people in the west just accepted the narrative of the inability of the various ethnic groups to live together (ignoring the actual history of those same ethnic groups doing so for centuries).

With regards to Bosnia, I think there is a strong possibility that a successful invasion in Ukraine by Russia could cause the Republika Srpska to follow through on it’s plans to pull out of the Bosnian joint government, which could likely mean a war (though I don’t know if the government in Belgrade really has a stomach for that kind of conflict again). Prior to what’s happening now, the Bosnian war had the distinct “privilege” of having the longest siege since WW2 (Sarajevo).

Recently, the Muscovites pulled this stunt.

But in supporting Russia over Ukraine Serbians are choosing to overlook the fact that Ukrainians are also their “Slav brothers” and “Orthodox brothers”.

That’s the point. It’s full blown Orwellian now: the Ukrainians are simultaneously their fellow (if confused and temporarily estranged) Russian brothers, and they’re gay Jewish Nazis. The Russians are being told to believe both things simultaneously.

When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.

Don’t worry. It’s just posturing until they reveal the new Russian flag.

What’s the use of links to inaccessible articles?

I’m sorry. Are all Daily Beast articles paywalled these days? There is no paywall when accessing from Japan, but if articles are generally behind a paywall in other countries, I’ll look for other sources when posting links in the future.

ETA: Scrap that. I’ll use Archive Today when posting Daily Beast articles in the future. Thanks for the tip. I had no idea one could do that.

Wasn’t any paywall for me here in UK. Was able to read it in the clear straight from the link.

A lot of the time, it’s on a country by country basis. And it changes constantly.
