2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1)

Old disinfo never dies, it just gets rolled on into the next campaign.

that’s a weird graphic. china has more enlisted people than we do, as im sure does india, but that’s partly because so much of our military is privatized. and also because those countries have so many people period

we spend more than 3 times what china does, have way more planes, missiles, etc. and have bases throughout the entire world. we definitely have the largest military by far - it’s our accepted form of social (un) safety net

im guessing russia’s military is getting smaller by the day

I’ve only seen 2 or 3 of this guy’s videos but each one makes me think I must seek out more.
His arguments and rationales are so well thought out and so succinctly put, it’s almost poetry.

Thatcher-era policy designed to stop local authorities boycotting south Africa is supposed to be stymieing local gov’t efforts to divest so I read yesterday.

“bureaucratic hassles”

As James O’Brian said in LBC in the video upthread, “working perfectly”. Exactly as intended.

“Russian state media quoted the Russian Constitutional Court justifying its decision to withdraw as saying: “The Conference of European Constitutional Courts considered it possible to openly, in a form completely unacceptable for the courts, to join the one-sided and biased position taken by the governments of the respective countries regarding the latest events in Ukraine."

Taking their judicial ball and going home.

Eagerly anticipating the Repo Man version of Firefox, with a little bit of Brian Dennehy in Gorky Park for good measure.

Whenever I see garbage like this, I worry that it’s an attempt to make some yet to be taken horrible action seem more palatable to whatever the target audience may be.

Just FTR, I found this piece on German reliance on Russian gas imports quite good:

And FTR, here we have an example of “Well, we prepared ourself, and good riddance: we told you what would happen.”

I refer to my earlier comment.

@DukeTrout, I think the PMC Wagner can be worse than Blackwater, and Blackwater already is really, really bad. Scum of the earth bad.

The difference, I think, is the absolute lack of any liability, even of any public oversight by the press, or any (domestic) public pressure.

And, of course, openly idolising the Nazis. Starting with the name, and definitely not ending there.

(Just FTR, if anyone scrolling this topic hasn’t heard of “Putin’s cook”, by the way, I suggest to start having a look. This guy is like to see a real-life equivalent of conspiracy theories, or a movie villain.)
