Hence, Qatar is not a country

To be fair, it’s not clear that these realists care about right vs. wrong. They see amorality as a feature rather than a bug.

They’re all about “might”, though.

If there was, it would be the ability to throw around enough military or economic weight* to intimidate or (to one degree or another) colonise a higher-end pawn state.

[* Cultural weight, as important as it is, doesn’t count with the realists.]

The sides are hitting each other using artillery and air strikes. Retired Gen. Urmas RoosimÀgi said that Russia is using few high-tech missiles because of their cost. A single Kalibr X missile costs $400,000, while RoosimÀgi does not believe Russia is about to run out of conventional munitions.

“I visited Moldova. There is a place in Transnistria called Kolbasnaya. They have a major army mobilization warehouse there. It takes 28,000 railcars to move its contents,” the retired general said.

Transnistria is landlocked, so transporting stocks from Kolbasnaya would require going through Moldova or Ukraine.

Yeah, the experts may note that Russia still has a lot of shells and bullets*, but getting them to the guns on the front line? That takes skill Russia has been slow to learn. It may be a part of why retreating Russian BTG’s have been abandoning still-functional howitzers, because the local commanders feel they are worthless since no more ammo is arriving.

*On paper, mind. Don’t forget the Klept never let patriotism get in the way of earning a quick ruble.

Solovyov was about to say “the foolishness of the Russian monarchy” before he caught himself. Criticising that venerated bungler Nicholas II would be stating one of the many truths that might have gotten a state propagandist in trouble.

I’m a trifle puzzled by what point he is attempting to make. It’s not false that a fair number of countries in Russia’s vicinity could have remained Russian territories if history had worked out differently; but when the second half of that statement is “and if there’s anything they can agree on it’s that they don’t want the russians to happen to them again” it seems like an unhelpful thing to mention.

Ukraine will summon the ambassador of Hungary to demand an apology after its prime minister, Viktor OrbĂĄn, appeared in public wearing a scarf depicting some Ukrainian territory as part of Hungary, the foreign ministry said.

Orbán was pictured attending a football match wearing a scarf which the newspaper, Ukrainska Pravda, said showed a map of “Greater Hungary” including territory that is now part of the neighbouring states of Austria, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, Serbia and Ukraine.

In a statement on Facebook, ministry spokesperson Oleg Nikolenko said:

The promotion of revisionism ideas in Hungary does not contribute to the development of Ukrainian-Hungarian relations and does not comply with the principles of European policy.

He added that Ukraine wanted an apology and a rebuttal of any Hungarian claims on Ukrainian territory.

Is this their answer to the Ukrainian cats that have been pictured in battle? “Cats?!? We’ll show you! Here’s a very fierce, not at all cuddly raccoon! Take that!”

It might be a response to pro-Ukrainian raccoon memes.

Serbian nationalists will be outraged for a millisecond, before they remember that OrbĂĄn is on Team Putin.

I don’t know
maybe, but also, they have their own imperial ambitions and always have, even if they get support from their big Russian brothers
