EU parliament ‘hit by cyber attack’ after declaring Russia a sponsor of terrorism
The European parliament was hit by a cyberattack, officials said, hours after it voted to declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism.
Jaume Duch, a spokesperson for the EU parliament said its website was down due to a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack.
Very short thread:
Meanwhile, European Parliament declared Russia a state sponsor Terrorism. Let’s see what Russia next move will be.
This war will cost more people lives. This is not a way forward. They should stop fighting and bring peace.
I am not quite sure what you are talking about. The only one who can bring peace is Russia, by withdrawing and no longer lobbing munitions at civilian targets.
Any cease fire before Russia agrees to withdraw is, well, suicidal, because we all know the Russians will simply use any cease fire to regroup, rearm and try again to subjugate Ukraine.
Of course it is costing lives. BECAUSE THE RUSSIAN ARMY HAS INVADED UKRAINE, AND ARE FIRING ROCKETS AND DRONES AT CIVILIANS.
Who is “they,” and what kind of “peace” do you think “they” can bring?
Yeah, just the kind of people everyone should make peace with. /s
Even the Pope can see what’s going on.
Russia absolutely should stop fighting and bring peace. As it is, though, I think they will have peace when Putin hangs from a gibbet at his window for the sport of his own crows. He seems dedicated to costing more lives otherwise, Ukrainian and Russian alike.
CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG
Russian visitors
The farmers’ union paper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus reports that there was a massive surge in the number of Russian visitors to Finland in September – ten times more that the monthly average seen last spring.
According to preliminary data collected by Statistics Finland, almost 50,000 Russians carried out overnight stays in Finland in September, the majority in Uusimaa, which the paper says suggests that many were in transit to other countries.
Ari Peltoniemi, chief economist at the Finnish Hospitality Association (MaRa), told Maaseudun Tulevaisuus that the reason for the surge was likely Russia’s partial mobilisation of conscripts in late September. In addition, Finland’s decision to limit entry by Russians for the purpose of tourism which came into force 30 September also likely had an impact, he said.
However, on an annual basis, the number of Russian visitors was well below the level seen before the coronavirus pandemic, when two hundred thousand or more overnight stays were registered monthly during peak tourism seasons.
A tool amply suited to brutalizing unarmed targets, but of questionable military use, might be a little more honesty than they intended.
(Also, is that a little German flag sewn into the violin case’s lining, toward the head of the sledgehammer? I know that ‘import substitution’ has been hard…)
The big problem with Russians fleeing their country is that with such large numbers, it’s hard to find the saboteurs and agents provocateurs hiding in the crowd. It may only be one amongst a thousand, or one amongst ten thousand, but the chances are now pretty high that the FSB agent is going to sneak in. I’m not even talking about those hoping to maintain their standard of living by shopping in the EU.
This sucks for the Russians trying to get out, as now they are all under suspicion, as well as being targeted by the FSB for their disloyalty. They’re going to get it from both sides, as we’ve seen with Syrians fleeing in 2015, and so on. Add to this that there are already a bunch of asshole expatriate Russians avidly spouting whataboutism about how horrid Ukrainians are, and they are not going to be as welcome as they think.
Now here’s a line:
“Given the advantage the Ukrainians have in equipment training and quality of their personnel against the demoralized, poorly trained, poorly equipped Russians…”
It’s easy for Ben Wallace to cheer on the counteroffensive from outside of the rasputitsa. Mud Season is currently in full swing in Ukraine, and the rich soil has become mud deeper than any vehicle can cross. Even tractors have problems in the stuff.
A hard frost is needed before the counteroffensive can take place, and also crossing the rivers needs planning as most of the bridges are out of the question.
The Ukrainian commanders have played it smart so far. I won’t armchair quarterback them.

Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko has provoked ire in Ukraine by suggesting that the end of the war is Ukraine’s responsibility, and that if it does not “stop”, it will end in the “complete destruction” of the country.
In a broadcast clip circulating on social media for its controversial comments, Lukashenko said that “everything is in Ukraine’s hands now if they don’t want a huge number of people to die”.
He said that similar to relations with Germany following the second world war, once the Ukraine war has concluded “we will make it all up”.
Advisor to Ukraine’s minister of internal affairs, Anton Gerashchenko, tweeted that this was “theatre of [the] absurd”.
