Such big threats against Germany and the US by the country that’s getting it’s ass handed to them like this by Ukraine
Uttered by “the speaker of the lower house of Russia’s parliament”, a man with zero political power whose only usefulness is to be trotted out to make statements like this.
Be nice if they confiscated all the ones that belong to SWAT teams in podunk towns as well, and sent 'em off to the folks who actually need them.
Seems Poland is preparing to formally request leave to export Leopard 2s.
And separately
The German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock’s comment on Sunday that her country would not “stand in the way” of Poland sending Leopard tanks to Ukraine has caused some confusion in Berlin. For now, it remains unclear whether her remarks are indicative of a shift in the government’s position or merely a Green party attempt to correct the chancellor Olaf Scholz’s bungled communication strategy.
Margarita Simonyan chooses this moment to tell a “joke” about how the USSR viewed its African friends (especially topical because it involves the navy).
She’s consistently been one of the more honest, and therefore totally detestable, voices of the Putin regime.
You know, this jostled something in my mind.
My dad used to get RT delivered to his home. Honestly, I went back and forth between thinking ‘is he a spy?’ to ‘why did he fall for this nonsense?’ to ‘smart: keep an eye on what your enemies are doing!’. Still don’t know what the real answer was.
But anyway, I’m still getting mail for him, 4 1/2 years after he died, including magazine subscriptions, newsletters, etc. As far as I can tell, the only entity that immediately stopped communicating with him was RT. He died, and they knew it, so they stopped. That’s some pretty impressive intel, there, for ‘just’ a magazine.
Probably a combination of their constantly reviewing and tracking their subscriber list to see who might be a good asset or Useful Idiot, combined with running on a shoestring budget compared to other outlets.
My grandfather used to get Soviet Life. He was a Southern preacher man and I suppose he was just interested in “the godless Ruskies and their conservative lifestyles.”
via a random CIA FOIA request:
SOVIET LIFE is the only English-language magazine distributed in the United States under the cultural exchange agreement between the USA and the USSR. Under the terms of the sigr_eemo-nt t-h- --United–States distributes the Russian-language magazine AMERICA on a reciprocal basis in the Soviet Union. The reciprocal arrangement was worked out in the hope that “these exchanges may contribute to the broadening of mutual understanding between the American and Soviet peoples and to the development of relations between the two countries.”
If it were still around today there would be more Adidas sweat pants on the cover.
