2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 2)

They should probably arm themselves if they expect anyone to take them seriously. NK might appreciate some T-34’s, but doubt it will get them anywhere.

As the article says, arms are more likely to flow in the other direction. North Korea is already heavily sanctioned, so it wouldn’t be afraid of US sanctions for arming Russia.

The North Korean army has thousands of tanks that the Russian army wouldn’t turn up its nose at, given that it has resorted to digging out T-62 and T-55s.

Don’t worry, they have their own.

ETA: When North Korea wants to be taken seriously it tests a missile. If you can nuke your enemies the quality of your army is not so important.

To be fair, there is a difference between the assurance of western support and the reporting “SG says countries have agreed Kyiv will join military alliance when war with Russia is over”.

The diplomatic importance of limiting formulas like “over time” and “eventually” is not to be underestimated. And journalism that does not critically classifies and questions Stoltenberg’s statements is not doing justice to its task.

Jack Teixeira shared secret intelligence earlier and to a much larger audience, NYT reports

The US air national guardsman accused of leaking classified defence documents to a small group of gamers, posted sensitive information months earlier than previously known and to a much larger chat group, according to online postings reviewed by The New York Times.

In February 2022, soon after the invasion of Ukraine, a user profile matching that of Jack Teixeira began posting secret intelligence on the Russian war effort to a previously undisclosed chat group of about 600 members on the social platform Discord.

The newly discovered information included details about Russian and Ukrainian casualties, activities of Moscow’s spy agencies and updates on aid being provided to Ukraine. The user claimed to be posting information from the National Security Agency, the CIA and other intelligence agencies.

The Pentagon declined to comment on the new report.

Not sure if that belongs more here or in “Drums of War,” but certainly tedrifying enough.

If nothing else, Russia is giving us lots of non-ironic and shitty versions of Laibach songs… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Also, reminds me of turbofolk in Serbia during the wars… One turbofolk star (Ceca) even married a guy later charged with war crimes and genocide…

Gross.

I thought of Laibach as soon as I saw his boots.

In another timeline Shaman is representing Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest, because stonking ethnic pop always goes down well there.

I am rather taken by the poster in the first image, reminiscent of Polish and Czech graphic traditions.
